After receiving $278 million in funding, Pensando Systems is looking to expand the reach of edge-computing functionality:

Prominent investors include Hewlett Packard Enterprise , Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Goldman Sachs.The company was founded by four ex-Cisco engineers, who have founded and sold four companies to Cisco in the years following their departure. Pensando makes software and devices that aim to help private data centers replicate the edge-computing flexibility provided on cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services .
Pensando is looking to expand the reach of edge computing functionality, which promises to disrupt the data transmission process. Edge computing systems can make data transmission much more efficient: Instead of data going directly to the cloud or to a remote data center for processing, it goes through a local processing device, which reduces the amount of data that ultimately needs to be sent to and/or processed on a remote server.
