Before Danilo Cavalcante was caught by troopers, a heat signature was spotted in the dark of night within a perimeter where police were searching for the convicted killer.
Cpl. James Erme said in the hours before Danilo Cavalcante was caught by troopers, a heat signature was spotted in the dark of night within a perimeter where police were searching for the convicted killer."There was something we saw, we radioed it in, and the ground units did their job," he said.Cavalcante, who had escaped nearly two weeks prior from the Chester County prison, was apprehended on Sept. 13, concluding a lengthy manhunt.
"It was a big area — two big areas that we were searching," said Erme, a pilot with the state police aviation unit."To have ground troopers or units go through those areas would have taken, based on the terrain, the density of the trees ... just the terrain itself. We were able to help them and cut down on that workload."
