Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a new bill into law, which would prohibit the use of hand-held devices while driving. Senate Bill 37 is known as Paul Miller's Law. It's named after a 21-year-old Scranton man who was killed in 2010 because a truck driver was distracted on a cell phone.His mother, Eileen, fought to get the law enacted for 12 years.'I got it done, Paul. I did it,' she said at the signing on Wednesday.She hopes the law will save other families similar pain.
'Paul's legacy will live through this bill, Senate Bill 37, protecting every driver and passenger on Pennsylvania roadways,' she said.Pennsylvania is 29th state to pass this type of lawTexting while driving has already been illegal in Pennsylvania since 2012. But this measure would take it a step further and make it so that any hand-held device used while driving is illegal with a $50 fine.The bill does include the following exemptions: Using a phone exclusively as a GPS.
