A local project in Pennsylvania called 'Together, Tacit' recently announced their new innovative tech extending a bridge in the artistic process to BVI people.

Penn State president Neeli Bendapudi tried the new technology with a State College community member Laura Shaffer, who became visually impaired due to a degenerative disease. A local project in Pennsylvania called 'Together, Tacit' recently announced their new innovative technology that extends a bridge in the artistic process to those who are traditionally left out of it.

A team of artists and engineers at Penn State University has worked over four semesters to develop a haptic glove that allows blind and visually impaired people to create sculptures through touch. While a visually impaired person uses the glove to make art, sighted people watch through virtual reality goggles as the sculpture takes form. Their work then gets 3D printed and put on display.

"I've learned from this project very much that lack of sight does not mean lack of vision. So, I wanted the 'contourist' to go back to their authorship so that they knew that they were integral to the creative process," said Bonnie Collura, a professor of art and sculpture at Penn State University.

They also said they are looking to create more partnerships to get the technology into schools, hospitals, community centers and so much more.Penn State College of Engineering; Learning Factory program/undergraduate studentsClovernook Center for the Blind + Visually Impaired - Cincinnati, Ohio
