Wanting to stay in San Antonio but without the upkeep hassles of a single-family house, he bought a $4 million bachelor pad in the sky, a two-story penthouse in“With the yard, house cleaning, the swimming pool and everything else, it was costing me about $12,000 to $15,000 a month to live out there,” he said of his former home.
The Arts Residences occupies the top eight floors of the 20-story Thompson San Antonio building and all 59 condominiums, including the six, two-story penthouses, have been sold, the last one closing this month. The result is a large space that feels modern and masculine with sharp angles and clean lines and a color palette limited mostly to black and white, the better to showcase Amato’s large art collection. The floors are a deep brown oak, the rugs are thick and the fixtures luxurious. The 12-foot ceilings throughout enhance the initial feeling of spaciousness.
