Nationally, Persichilli said, 1,000 children have died of COVID, making it one of the top 10 causes of death for children between the ages of 5 and 11.in the state is “at the highest level since the pandemic began.” Persichilli said the highly contagious omicron variant is especially a concern for children who are either unvaccinated or who are too young to be vaccinated.
“We want to emphasize that many of are too young to be vaccinated, so it’s very important that we have to maintain our vaccination coverage so we can cocoon these children,” Tan said.
