Vehicle pedestrian detection systems are coupled with a car’s automatic emergency braking system and intended to stop the vehicle if it detects a pedestrian in its path

- The performance of modern pedestrian detection systems varies widely between carmakers, with high-end luxury brands generally faring better and other models failing to recognize pedestrians altogether, according to a study released on Tuesday by a U.S. insurance research group.

Automakers are beefing up crash avoidance technology on new cars, increasingly making the systems part of their standard equipment in 2020 models. While the best-performing cars included luxury models Audi A4, BMW 3 series and a version of the Mercedes-Benz C-class, IIHS also gave its best rating to the Nissan Maxima and Volvo S60.

All tests were conducted during the day and on dry roads, as those are the only scenarios for which automakers currently commit their technology, said IIHS President David Harkey.

Study Finds Every Style Of Parenting Produces Disturbed, Miserable AdultsStudy Finds Every Style Of Parenting Produces Disturbed, Miserable AdultsSANTA ROSA, CA—A study released by the California Parenting Institute Tuesday shows that every style of parenting inevitably causes children to grow into profoundly unhappy adults. 'And, interestingly, we found that anything between those two extremes is equally damaging, always resulting in an adult who suffers from some debilitating combination of unpreparedness and isolation. Despite great variance in parenting styles across populations, the end product is always the same: a profoundly flawed and joyless human being.' The study did find, however, that adults often achieve temporary happiness when they have children of their own to perpetuate the cycle of human misery.
