James Gunn offers an exciting Peacemaker season 2 filming update, revealing production will kick off in 'just a few months.'
With the state of the DC Extended Universe largely in flux, James Gunn has shared a promising Peacemaker season 2 filming update. Created and primarily directed by Gunn, the HBO Max series served as a sequel to The Suicide Squad and followed John Cena's titular hero as he is roped into another mission for A.R.G.U.S. to track down parasitic aliens known as butterflies.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Peacemaker scored similar critical acclaim as The Suicide Squad for Gunn's unique writing and humor, the action sequences and the performances from its cast, namely Cena, Brooks and Stroma. With the show also beating out The Book of Boba Fett for the most in-demand title during its run, HBO Max swiftly greenlit Peacemaker season 2 with Gunn returning to write and direct all new episodes, the number of which has yet to be revealed.
Gunn's Peacemaker season 2 filming update comes as many audiences were concerned about the show's future amidst Warner Bros. Discovery's controversial restructuring of HBO Max, the show's home. Said restructuring has resulted in the cancelations of the DCEU Batgirl movie and Scoob! 2, as well as a variety of animated and scripted shows.
The Peacemaker season 2 filming update also comes nearly two weeks after Gunn confirmed that he was currently in the writing process for the next chapter of the show. With Gunn having previously indicated season 2 would begin filming in early 2023, his new update seemingly points towards he and his Peacemaker crew reuniting as early as January, leaving the door open for the show to return to screens in early 2024, if it keeps to a similar shooting schedule as season 1.
