It is to help cover rising living costs
Payments to homes which have taken in people fleeing the war in Ukraine have been raised in Northamptonshire by £200. North Northamptonshire Council has increased payments from £350 to £550 a month from November through to March 2023 for people taking part in the Homes for Ukraine scheme, to help cover rising living costs.
NNC receives direct funding from central Government for the "thank you" payments to participating households. , with 390 currently staying with hosts across the area. The remainder have moved into their own accommodation or moved to other areas in the UK, while some have returned to Ukraine.Cllr Helen Harrison, the council’s executive member for adults, health and wellbeing, said: "We are extremely grateful to the individuals and families that have opened up their homes to those arriving from Ukraine and continue to do so.
Council leader Cllr Jason Smithers added: "Since the invasion of Russia to Ukraine, we have supported the people of Ukraine and have welcomed 500 refugees into the area. We will continue to do all we can to help, and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who taken part in the Homes for Ukraine scheme so far.
