Citing health issues and the pandemic, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, 71, is seeking release to home confinement, although he has about 4.5 years to go on his 7.5-year sentence.
President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, is seeking early release from prison due to the threat the coronavirus poses to his health.
Last December, Manafort was taken from Loretto to a nearby hospital due to a heart problem. Downing’s letter says the former Trump campaign chairman had the flu and bronchitis in prison in February, putting him at further risk. Manafort’s defense lawyer acknowledged in his letter that despite the deadly outbreaks of the virus at several federal prisons, no infections among prisoners, guards or other workers at Loretto have yet been reported, but he said that is certain to change.
