The Berea Fire Department conducted the Striking the Four Fives bell ringing rite in memory of safety forces lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Commander Tony Mazzeo led the Berea commemoration from inside the Coe Lake Gazebo. “Good and decent people died 21 years ago today, and new American heroes died trying to save them,” Mazzeo said. “Please keep in mind our American service members sacrificing their tomorrows so that our today will be free.”
Brook Park Mayor Ed Orcutt spoke to the crowd gathered at Kennedy Memorial Park for the city's 9/11 commemoration. “Always with us will be the memory of all who lost their lives, and the heroes who risked their lives, that 11th day of September 21 years ago,” said. “That attack on U.S. soil defined who we are as a nation. We united as one, comforting each other and remaining strong.Berea police and fire personnel gathered inside the Coe Lake Gazebo for a Patriot Day commemoration on Sept. 11.
