Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing announces he tested positive for coronavirus

Georgetown said in a news release that Ewing, 57, is isolated and receiving care at a Washington hospital. He chose to announce his diagnosis"to emphasize that this virus can affect anyone," the school said.

"This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly," Ewing said in a statement."I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Now more than ever, I want to thank the healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines. I’ll be fine and we will all get through this.", a disease that has killed more than 94,000 Americans over the past few months.

An 11-time All-Star as a player with the New York Knicks, Ewing transitioned to coaching in 2002, serving as an assistant with several NBA teams before accepting the head coaching job at Georgetown prior to the 2017-18 season. The Hoyas have posted an overall record of 49-46 in his three seasons at the helm.
