The recommendations also include that the province establish long-term and predictable funding, a demand that individual municipalities such as Vancouver, Delta, Richmond, Maple Ridge and Chilliwack have also already made. Kruger noted there has been numerous reports and scientific work undertaken to characterize risk in the past decade, and that work will continue.
Tamsin Lyle, a flood management expert who has been involved in planning in B.C., said the Metro Vancouver submission is “spot on” because it highlights the need for long-term planning.
