Schools earned trophies for sending the greatest percentage of their students to the event
A Dobie High School distance runner finds himself neck-and-neck with the leader of the fourth-grade boys race as they begin their trek on South Palm Court Saturday morning.The usually quiet streets of South and North Palm Court were turned into a river of red, green, blue and burnt orange T-shirts for two hours Saturday morning as another important edition of Get Fit Jog was held.
Just a month removed from winning a Super Swish free-throw shooting championship, Anthony turned the corner into the football stadium parking lot like he could go another eight miles without slowing down. Sure enough, while the third graders were doing the route, from inside the stadium, Amber Macneish, the school district's coordinator for health, P.E. and wellness, blared out his name as one of the top finishers.
For the middle school division, no surprise there. Keller Middle School was a GFJ juggernaut before the pandemic and they remain one post pandemic. "It takes self-discipline to do that. It's just a fun activity that you can do without any equipment at all. You can do it with your friends, your family, your older brother, your younger brother, your sister. It gives everybody's brain a breather. It beats stress. It's an easy sport to do," Buratti said.
