Creatures of all kinds -- costumed and real -- are returning to Parma Heights for a Halloween celebration.
Creatures in the Commons returns from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday in the tennis courts area of the Greenbrier Commons.
“It was very successful last year where it was the same kind of deal -- a trunk or treat event we put on for the city,” Recreation Director Madi Bacci said. “We hosted it as more of a tabling event, so instead of the businesses decorating trunks, they decorated tables. “It was awesome. We weren’t sure what to expect being our first time doing it. Knowing Halloween is one of everybody’s favorite holidays, we were expecting 300 to 400 people, which is our usual for events. We saw 800 to 1,000 people. It was very well attended.”
The upcoming second annual affair features businesses setting up trick-or-treat stations, as well as creepy critters, crafts, games and -- weather permitting -- even a spooky movie in the park.Among the participating organizations are Parma-South Presbuterian Church, 168 Optical, LLC, The Cotton Chics, Cubscout Pack 263 and Yorktown Service Plaza.“We do have a Facebook poll where residents can vote for ‘Coco’ or ‘Hocus Pocus 2.
Other new elements added to this year’s Creatures in the Commons include a funnel cake food truck, balloon twisting and another live animal show featuring different critters.Folks interested in decorating a table and passing out treats are encouraged toMayor Marie Gallo said the expectation is the city will be building on last year’s successful debut.
