There couldn’t be a better fit between a pastor and a parish since Father Dani speaks multiple languages. And every Sunday there are Masses in English, Spanish and Italian.

De La Pena, he said, has the English- and Spanish-speaking communities working together, gives more attention than previous pastors to the Filipino parishioners and holds onto the Italian-speaking people. There couldn’t be a better fit between a pastor and a parish since he speaks all of those languages. And every Sunday there are Masses in English, Spanish and Italian.
Baker said De La Pena is doing the most of any pastor in years to bring more Filipinos into the parish and provide pastoral assistance. Decades ago, more Italian immigrants moved into the Heights, though that has leveled off, but a Mass is said in Italian every Sunday at 9:30. Andrea Salumeria is a stone’s throw, across the street, from St. Nicholas and they make delicious Italian sandwiches. A few other Italian businesses that opened in the 1970s and ‘80s still remain on Central Avenue.
