Salvatore Anello, whose granddaughter Chloe Wiegand tragically fell from a cruise ship in July, has been charged in connection with her death.
The tragic incident happened on July 7, as the ship known as Freedom of the Seas docked in San Juan.
"The thing that he has repeatedly told us is 'I believed that there was glass,'" Kimberly shared in herWitnesses to the terrifying accident later recalled how Kimberly let out a primal scream when learning of what happened to her daughter -- one that could be heard throughout the cruise ship deck.."And I just kept saying, 'Take me to my baby. Where's my baby?' I didn't even notice a window.
Alan and Kimberly stood by Anello after the incident, laying blame for Chloe's death at the feet of Royal Caribbean, whom they believe created an unsafe environment for children. . He described them as"devastated," believing the charges are"unnecessary and unfair." Even though the Wiegands continue to stand by Anello, police in Puerto Rico consider his actions that day in July to have been negligent.After all, they argue, it was Anello who exposed his granddaughter to the open window -- which she could only reach after being lifted up -- causing her to fall more than 100 feet to the platform below.
