TikTok have made some changes for account holders under the age of 18

Glasgow families will be pleased to know that TikTok have added some new features to their social media platform which will give parents the power to limit their child's screen time.

Every account belonging to a user aged under 18 will automatically be set to a 60-minute daily screen time limit. If the one hour limit is reached, teens will be prompted to enter a passcode in order to continue watching, requiring them to make an active decision to extend that time. But for those who are under the age of 13, and have a TikTok account, the power to extend viewing time lies in the hands of their parents.

Although the daily screen time will also be set at 60-minutes, a parent or guardian will need to set or enter an existing passcode to enable 30 minutes of additional watch time. The popular platform is also prompting teens to set a daily screen time limit if they opt out of the 60-minute default and spend more than 100 minutes on TikTok in a day.Sign up to Glasgow Live's newsletter Get all the latest Glasgow news and headlines sent straight to your inbox twice a day by signing up to our free newsletter.
