Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has arrested a 32-year-old Paradise man following an investigation into sexual violence on the Northeast Avalon. JOHN'S, N.L. — A 32-year-old Paradise man is in custody following an investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary into alleged sexual violence involving fictitious online identities.
The RNC launched the investigation on Aug. 23 after receiving information that fake identities were being used on social media platforms to arrange sexual encounters.Markus Hicks was arrested at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, and has been charged with sexual assault. He is being held for a provincial court appearance.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone who communicated with users Isabella Ricci, under the username bellaricci4, or Corinne Smith, with the username smittycor15, to come forward. Those with relevant information will be directly connected to the investigative team. RNC said the team is using a trauma-informed approach focused on safety and well-being.
