"All we want to do is focus on baseball and the ability to do that has been compromised. It's a major distraction."
As ridiculous as the Jays handled the Bass-kicking, hard to imagine we’ve seen the last of it.
The team can pitch a new weight room and the state-of-the-art spring training complex, but players want distraction-free conditions to compete and do their job.We apologize, but this video has failed to load.Word travels around the baseball world, especially when things tumble off the cliff as it did with the Jays this week. It’s not as if there isn’t a constituency in baseball that shares Bass’ views, either, although most are wise enough not to amplify them.
Not everyone on the team appreciated Bass’ attention-seeking social media activity this season that has been a nuisance on more than one occasion. But that doesn’t mean some weren’t thrilled with the way Bass was left to wither in front of the media on Thursday, an appearance in which he stuck to his beliefs prompting his swift dismissal the following day.
Imagine what manager John Schneider must think at being designated as the official spokesman for much of the past two weeks. Schneider’s strong voice is more than capable of handling anything, but doesn’t he have enough to worry about with a team that has work to do to get more involved in the playoff race.
