Jose Azocar earns start in place of struggling Trent Grisham; Luis Campusano gets first start in two weeks
José Azocar is getting the start he earned and the start it would be tough to keep giving Trent Grisham.
“He’s playing well right now,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said of writing Azocar into the lineup in center field Saturday against the Diamondbacks. “So we’re trying to reward that. And it hasn’t just been the last game. He’s been doing it for a while now.” Azocar was 3-for-4 with two RBIs on Friday in his start against Diamondbacks’ left-hander Madison Bumgarner.This will be Azocar’s ninth start against an opposing right-handed starting pitcher but his first since July 11. All nine of his starts since being recalled from Triple-A on Aug. 20 had come against lefties. He is actually hitting better against right-handers than left-handers in 26 fewer plate appearances.
