The Padres began last week with a loss to the team with the second-worst record in the American League. They began this week by beating a team that fell into that spot. The Padres continued to slug their way back to respectability, with solo home runs by Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. helping lift them to a 6-1 victory over the A’s on Monday night at Petco Park.
The A's are reeling almost as badly as the Angels were before earning their first home sweep of the season in that series against the Padres. Oakland has lost nine of their past 12 games. In their past seven, they have scored 13 runs and gone 3-for-44 with runners in scoring position.
