A newly hired high school football coach was supposed to appear for a signing ceremony Wednesday after just landing his dream job. A day later, he was dead., which reports that Coach Ron Frederick, just hired to lead Southmoreland High School’s varsity football team, died suddenly on Thursday of unknown causes.Frederick, 40, was a 1999 Southmoreland graduate and former offensive lineman. He had just interviewed for his alma mater’s vacant head coach position on Tuesday in Westmoreland County.
On Wednesday, Frederick was informed by school officials that his hiring as head coach would be made official at the next school board meeting, the Post-Gazette writes. Also Wednesday, Frederick was expected at a small “signing ceremony” for Southmoreland senior Kory Ansell, who signed to play at California University of Pa. But Frederick didn’t show up because Frederick wasn’t feeling well, the newspaper reports.
