The 4-week-old baby was severely injured and is being treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, police say.

man was arraigned Wednesday morning on charges that he intentionally threw his 4-week-old son down the stairs, dropped him to the floor and slammed his head into a wall, Pennsylvania State Police report in court papers.

When the baby was taken to a wellness checkup on Monday, the doctor noticed a potential head injury and advised the infant be taken to a hospital, police said. The baby was brought to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill where an MRI and X-rays showed severe injuries to his head and body, police said. The boy was flown to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment of two kinds of skull fractures, a subdural hematoma, various rib fractures and breaks to both legs, police said.

Troopers interviewed the juvenile mother and her mother, and they said Miller dropped the child while picking him up from a bassinet, court papers say. The mother had previously said the same thing to a children and youth caseworker, police said.
