MONTAGUE, P.E.I. — Kenzy Hawkins hopes the next generation of Island athletes can take some inspiration from what her and her ringette teammates did Feb.

It wasn’t just another win for P.E.I. It was only the province’s second ringette victory since 2000, spanning five Games. The other win came in 2015 in Prince George, B.C., when P.E.I. defeated Saskatchewan 9-8 behind three-goal performances from Ashley Hollis and Sidney Corrigan.

P.E.I. took a 4-0 lead, but B.C. wouldn’t go away. While they never tied it, they got the score back to within at 7-6 heading to the fourth quarter. B.C. clawed back within one with six minutes to play. They called a timeout with 3:52 remaining while on the power play. Seventeen seconds later, Jeffery tallied the insurance marker by firing the ring just over the pad as the goalie dropped into the butterfly.
