SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 18, 2023 | SaltWireCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — About half of P.E.I.’s municipalities are set to repay the provincial government a total of $4.5 million.

While the amount overpaid varies — one government owes so little they declined to go on record — the province is looking to claw it all back within two years.P.E.I. municipalities urged to plan for growth, density as population set to reach 200,000 “Unfortunately, some projected data from the new estimate model was used for the 2022 advance payment calculations.”

“To me, it was an honest mistake by an employee with the province. And you know, everybody makes mistakes, but we’re all responsible to make sure that what we’re entitled to is correct. It would have been the same thing if they had underpaid use. We definitely would have been after them.”In Cornwall, the town is paying back the $3,548 over the 24 months allotted by the province.
