A father and son have been charged with selling meth to an undercover cop out of their Foothill Boulevard smoke shop, records show.
OAKLAND — The owner of a Foothill Boulevard smoke shop and his son have been charged with selling methamphetamine out of the business, and police say it’s not the first time such a bust has occurred there.
Ahmed Hamoud, 61, and Basam Hamoud, 38, were charged earlier this month with two counts of sale of a controlled substance, both felonies. They are both out of custody, records show. Police say that on Dec. 5, 2022, a plains clothes Oakland officer went into a store called the HAA Grocery and Smoke Shop, on the 2500 block of Foothill Boulevard, and purchased a “bulb” glass pipe — commonly used to smoke crack cocaine or methamphetamine — for $5. He then asked for $20 worth of methamphetamine, which Ahmed and Basam Hamoud allegedly handed him.
Police served a search warrant at the store and found “multiple bindles of suspected crystal methamphetamine,” a detective said in a sworn court statement.In 2014, officers allegedly pulled sale quantities of marijuana, crack cocaine, opiates, and methamphetamine. Two years later, Ahmed Hamoud was arrested for allegedly possessing 250 bindles of methamphetamine in his car.
In early 2018, police seized more than $27,000 in cash and a little less than a pound of methamphetamine from Hamoud’s home. They returned nine months later and seized 1.2 pound of methamphetamine from the smoke shop, according to authorities.
