About 300 people gathered in the board parking lot after six speakers signed up to speak about transgender students\u0027 use of washrooms.
Manon Phaneuf, parent of a transgender child, said her child was no longer in school, but she didn’t want any other child to face adversity.
Standing at the doorway after the limit of 75 people was reached, acting director of education Michele Giroux said there were no items on the matter on the agenda, and the board was simply hearing delegations.Article content Shannon Boschy, a failed candidate for trustee in last fall’s election, said freedom of expression was the issue. “There is a narrative that that the board wants to perpetuate” Boschy said after he left the board chambers. “This is authoritarianism. They don’t want any questions about it.”
