A provision in the federal gun legislation passed after the Uvalde school massacre is helping authorities crack down on these purchases, but we worry that this is but a small obstacle for cartels as they seek weaponry in a United States teeming with guns and Second Amendment absolutism.

Our colleague Kevin Krause reported this month on the arrests of three men, carrying loads of cash, who authorities say were drafted to buy military-style rifles on behalf of Mexican cartels at a gun store off the Sam Rayburn Tollway in The Colony.Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were able to monitor this operation and arrest the suspects.

The growing fervor against any type of gun regulation in the United States is helping arm the people who are killing our loved ones. At the same time, our laissez-faire attitude toward guns is feeding lawlessness in Mexico, where violence and insecurity have made life unbearable for many of its residents..
