Cindy Owens is a former Catholic board principal and superintendent. She is replacing Vicky Kyriaco, who has taken a leave of absence.

The board of the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority has appointed a former Catholic board principal and superintendent as its interim operations manager.

Owens has a Master of Business Administration and brings years of private sector experience to the position, the statement added. OSTA negotiated contracts this year with nine of 10 bus companies serving its two school boards, but was not able to renew a contract with Premier Bus Lines, which had served 36 routes. The lost routes affected about 3,000 students.94 of the cancelled school bus runs had been reinstated, but hundreds of families, most in the west end and rural communities of Ottawa, remained without bus transportation.

OSTA was formed in January 2007, merging the transportation departments of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board to form an independent, non-profit organization with its own staff and operations. It has a board of directors, which includes trustees, a senior business manager and the directors of education from the two school boards.
