The artwork is made up of 22 concrete panels, each three meters wide by seven meters tall.
The piece was made by using seamless one-piece rubber molds created by a computer from Graham’s design, which took close to three months to complete. Each individual panel took three hours to create.
Graham first began thinking about the project four years ago. “When I understood sort of the scope of the project, I knew that it was going to be of longer project,” she said. Graham says it was an intimidating project, and not just the artistry itself. “Having to keep it quiet was the toughest thing for me,” she said.
Since then, Graham says, the return of the University of Ottawa’s fine arts program, the expansion of the Ottawa art Gallery and the National Art Gallery to show more contemporary art proves that “the art scene has very much changed in Ottawa…compared to when I was growing up there”.
