Jeffrey Meleras and producer Dave Draves, after a long break, decided to finish Meleras’ seventh album: the Ballad of Copernicus Road.
Opening the project is a song called I Am God, inspired by the commandment “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
Alongside the biblical fare are tunes that come from a more personal place as Meleras describes the things he worshipped while growing up, from the Beatles and Bob Dylan to the Montreal Expos and Canadiens, creating a juxtaposition that underscores the gap between the ideals of the Bible and the realities of contemporary society.
In addition to the concept itself, an unusual aspect of the project is the number of musicians involved, especially singers. Among those featured on lead vocals are Selina Martin, Shannon Ross, Jack Pelletier and Andre Bluteau, along with Masone, Holloway, Hardill and Bidini.
