Livestream and in-person tickets atOpera superstar Wallis Giunta is back in her hometown Ottawa this summer, with a “special palette of sound” in store for patrons who attend her concert at Chamberfest on Friday. The flame-haired diva has come up with a unique showcase of music that she says is not normally heard on the world’s classical-music stages.
To fulfill her vision of that informal scene, Giunta rounded up a group of almost a dozen musicians, including pianist Hinrich Alpers and Thalea String Quartet, to accompany her in different configurations, depending on the piece.
“We’re working on those things but I can tell you it’s a program based on motherhood, which I recorded while pregnant with the first child, and hopefully will be completing while pregnant with the second,” said Giunta, who was doing her best not to be distracted by the squeals that came from her toddler son playing with his dad, British opera tenor Alex Banfield, in a room upstairs during the interview.
