“Heading into the season, we had a number of younger players and you’re never sure how they’re going to adjust to the league,” said Boyd. “We’ve had excellent leadership and the coaches have done a tremendous job with all the young guys. Ottawa 67’s defenceman Frankie Marrelli, who turned 17 in February, has scored four goals and 10 assists in 43 games in his first OHL season.Boyd says there was an adjustment period after Morrison and Mintyukov arrived in January, as roles within the team were redefined, but the club has rolled for the past month.
Injuries have also forced the 67’s to play shorthanded for extended stretches — Senators prospect Tyler Boucher is out for the season after re-aggravating a shoulder injury last week and Chris Barlas is week-to-week with an upper-body injury — but the 67’s have still managed to climb into seventh spot in the Canadian Hockey League’s latest rankings.
