Extensive searches were conducted, but there has never been a single trace of Calayca, who had been working and helping her single mother pay the mortgage. The camping trip was with a cousin and friends from her church. “As a mother, my instinct up to now is that I don’t feel like she is dead,” Rutledge said, adding that she believes her daughter was murdered.Friends and family said Calayca was a mature, religious woman who had a degree in early childhood education from George Brown College and was working at a Catholic daycare before she disappeared.
