I live in a Scarborough neighbourhood targeted for more density. Like other residents’ associations throughout the city, the one I volunteer for has major concerns about parts of the multiplex proposal. Many of the houses in my neighbourhood are affordable, modest houses. In recent years, these properties have been scooped up by speculators, demolished and replaced by large luxury houses.
My neighbourhood lacks local amenities. I can walk to buy a used car but I cannot walk to buy an apple. Residents in my neighbourhood need a car to get food. We need a car to get to a community centre. We have no cafes or vibrant street life on our arterial roads.
