Of course, many of us, myself included, have built into our day-to-day capacity a core group of loved ones for whom we want to always be available when duty calls. But even so, emotions can and do overwhelm.
We tend not to ask for consent before venting, or even dumping, because we haven’t been taught that such boundaries are useful and because we’re so afraid of being rejected.
