Brian Greenspan and Julianna Greenspan: The media has twisted this unprovoked assault into something it is clearly not
The publicly available facts reveal that Justice Brown, following a black tie gala event in which he paid tribute to a former member of the Court, was having a drink in his hotel lounge. A nearby table of guests, which included three women and a male companion, invited him to join them and they engaged in conversation. The entire group left together and proceeded in the direction of their rooms, across a large public space.
The media has twisted this unprovoked assault into something it is clearly not. From unfair and misleading headlines of drunken brawls, to the offensive comparison of Justice Brown to a skunk, the press has amazingly ignored the easily accessible truth in favour of rancorous gossip, easy fodder for the distorted “court” of public opinion.
It is notable that following the assault on Justice Brown, the ex-Marine and his cohorts proceeded to Google him and consider their cover-up for an hour prior to police involvement. They then launched a public campaign, conducting interviews and contacting the Judicial Council.
