Opinion: San Diego fans thrilled to see SDSU Aztecs winning at March Madness [Opinion]

” : Our Aztec men’s basketball team has given all of us in San Diego a great gift. They have given our San Diego State University national exposure, as never before.

By getting to the Final Four, they have ensured that our program gets more money, more national recognition, better recruiting and a feeling of pride, which is something other universities have experienced, but never us. “Aztecs for life” has taken on a new meaning. We can be proud of our university and its sports teams, and they’re not done. It would be hard to imagine getting to the final, much less winning it.What they have accomplished cannot be undone. We were proud of our basketball program becoming relevant because of Steve Fisher, and now Brian Dutcher has taken on the mantle, and has gone farther than his mentor. And we’re not done yet. Go Aztecs! It’s 2023. It’s March Madness.

At every single regular season game at Viejas, I wish the announcers would say: “Will everyone who has been following this team in person for 70 years please stand and be recognized?” We’d stand up: Carol and Dave Ortman, the Mickelsen family, the Ziegenfuss sisters. This is happiness.
