Officials from the Ontario Government have been hearing from law enforcement and Ontarians for well over a year about the epidemic of auto theft in Ontario.

The current state in Ontario tells us that between 2017 and 2019, 2.4 million vehicles went onto the Ontario Provincial Vehicle Registry. This number includes a significant amount with unverified, duplicate, inaccurate or missing VINs.Every 48 minutes a vehicle is stolen in the province of Ontario. Some of these vehicles are destined for other countries, which the Canadian Border Services Agency holds responsibility for disrupting.

Our reassurance is that Ontario isn’t unique to this challenge and there is a solution that has worked in jurisdictions like Alberta and Saskatchewan. The solution is a legitimate verification program. One that investigates these claims, ensures the integrity of the vehicle and the VIN along with its documentation.
