Opinion: Let's help the homeless people who can't help themselves [Opinion]
” : The U-T ran an article regarding the legislation proposed by Gov. Newsom, which would create a system whereby mentally ill homeless people would receive mandatory treatment with family, mental health advocates and the courts deciding what treatment was needed.
However, a rather large group of enabling homeless advocates are worried that the legislation might take away the rights of these sick people. What rights, you say? Yes, the right of these people to live on the streets, getting high, receiving and perpetrating violence on the population, and, of course, urinating and defecating while living in inhuman conditions. Those rights?
The notion that we are taking away rights of people incapable of caring for themselves due to their mental illness is beyond stupid. Please, let’s start by passing this legislation to spare them and the rest of us from the blight of mentally ill people who cannot help themselves living on streets.
