Ideal Rob Ford got people interested in municipal politics when they might have previously thought it had nothing to offer them and he seemed very much to be in politics because he believed all of this and wasn’t driven simply by ambition. I keep thinking about Rob Ford’s little guy though, perhaps better termed “the regular Torontonian,” after eight years of a very affluent and connected backroom master in office. Toronto is the fourth-biggest municipality in North America and has a population and operating budget greater than some provinces so there’s an incredible amount of interest in how the city works behind the scenes, even if it has the lowest political participation .
