The leader of the Ontario Native Women’s Association says a trip to New York to take part in a United Nations summit on the status of women provided a global platform to amplify Indigenous women’s voices.
It has highlighted unequal access to education, technology, and career opportunities in the STEM field for women, as well as issues like online harassment.McGuire-Cyrette said she was honoured to be selected as a member of the Canadian delegation. On Wednesday, Indigenous delegates used their platform to highlight the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in a press conference.
Indigenous people make up four per cent of Canadian adults, but under two per cent of those working in the STEM field, according to ONWA.
