Watch live: Ontario Fire Marshal to provide update on recent spate of fatal residential fires
The Ontario Fire Marshal will provide an update following a recent string of fatal fires involving homes in the GTA-Waterloo region.in Toronto’s west end in what Deputy Fire Chief Jim Jessop described as a “very complex fire.”
Initial reports had stated there were no injuries and that the building at Bloor Street West and Dundas Street was vacant. Later in the afternoon, Toronto fire officials confirmed one person, of whom no description has been provided, was removed through a window on the second floor and pronounced dead.
“The status of the building, both including its occupancy at the time and any fire life safety systems, will form part of the investigation,” Jessop said.four-alarm fire damaged several houses in North York. At least 40 firefighters were dispatched to the residential complex on Mantello Drive, including Toronto fire aerial units, who tackled the flames from high above the row of houses. No injuries were reported during the incident that left extended damage to the properties’ framework and back-ends, officials added.and two other adults injured.
