Ontario has approved a framework for an environmental assessment on part of a road it aims to build in the Ring of Fire region. Read on.

Two First Nations, Webequie and Marten Falls, both of which support building the road in the James Bay Lowlands region, designed the framework, known as the “terms of reference.” Ontario announced its acceptance of the terms at the ongoing Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s convention in Toronto, an international mining conference.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
Situated about 500 kilometres from Thunder Bay, Ontario considers the Ring of Fire project one of the “most promising” regions for critical minerals, and is known to contain nickel, copper, chrome and other metallic deposits. It said the broader area, which covers about 5,000 square kilometres, has “multi-generational potential” to contain mineral deposits that will see increasing demand as countries seek to shift away from fossil fuels.
