The Ottawa Police Service said on Twitter Tuesday afternoon that a 67\u002Dyear\u002Dold woman died due to the fire. One other person suffered non\u002Dlife\u002Dthreatening injuries, according to police.
Neighbours have identified the victim as Shirley Bennett.
Halladay said she heard sirens late Monday night but only saw the aftermath of the fire early Tuesday morning while walking her dogs, Fili and Kili. “I was just kind of getting to know her,” Cowling said, adding that she believed Bennett’s dog also perished in the fire.
