More Trump aides are grappling with the prospect of retaining expensive Washington lawyers to protect themselves from the impeachment fallout
As the broadening impeachment investigation encroaches on the West Wing, more White House aides are grappling with the prospect of retaining expensive Washington lawyers to protect themselves from the fallout.Roughly a dozen current and former administration officials already have testified behind closed doors — including top diplomats, State Department aides and two current and former National Security Council staffers.
Already on Tuesday, a NSC staffer responsible for Ukraine policy, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, testified on Capitol Hill that Trump’s overtures toward the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky undermined national security. A second national security staffer, Timothy Morrison, is scheduled to speak with lawmakers on Thursday — making it two appearances from current White House officials in a single week.
The 23-month Mueller investigation swept up more than a dozen White House aides. Special counsel Robert Mueller interviewed high-profile Trump officials like former White House counsel Don McGahn, former chief of staff Reince Priebus and former communications director Hope Hicks.
