“It was like being in an enchanted wonderland,” she recalls. “I heard some organ music coming from somewhere in the building and decided to try to follow the music. Everywhere I turned there was some glorious thing — a mural, an alcove, light coming in. It was just the most mystical and sexy and magical experience I’d ever had.”

I went and said, ‘Can we stop that sound?’ They said, ‘No, that’s the body cooler in the crematorium next door, so we can’t turn it off.’ Things like that are reminders of where we are.” “We all have loss every year. One year it’s Pauline Oliveros and one year Lou Harrison, or a beloved friend, or the year my father died in 2014, or we did a concert for the Ghost Ship fire victims,” says Cahill. “Another musician,, performed at this event and then was on his bicycle and was killed by a car. Now musicians come and perform at his spot — he’s now interred at the Chapel of the Chimes.
