The system is expected to be weak and bring minimal rainfall on Wednesday evening.

People visit the Golden Gate Bridge as a rain storm moves through the area on January 04, 2023 in San Francisco, California.Forecasters are calling the cold front headed for the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday the final installment in a string of storms that has brought an onslaught of rain to the region since Dec. 26. The system is expected to be weak and bring minimal rainfall on Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service said.

"There's a weak area of low pressure over the Pacific Northwest that will will be draped over the coast and then move down into our area before moving down into the Great Basin," said Dalton Behringer, a forecaster with the weather service. The first showers are forecast to hit the North Bay between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., with rain moving through the San Francisco Peninsula between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

"We'll see light with pockets of moderate rainfall and it'll be a quick shot," Behringer told SFGATE on the phone just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The highest rainfall totals are expected in the North Bay with lighter amounts to the south of the Golden Gate. The weather service is predicting that 0.2 to 0.3 inch will fall in the the North Bay, around the Golden Gate, and across the East Bay Hills. Areas farther south and the Santa Clara Valley may see only 0.1 inch or less.
