A group of bowfishers snagged themselves a massive catch, reeling in a nearly 300-pound alligator gar in South Texas.
Tim Selvidge, L.G. Selvidge and John Jackson were on a guided fishing tour with
on July 18, when halfway through their six-hour fishing trip they caught themselves a 271-pound alligator gar. It was also almost 8 feet long, with a girth of 48 inches.He said the gar was the biggest catch ever on one of his expeditions. The state record for the largest alligator gar reeled in is 290 pounds.
"We had no clue how big it actually was until we got it dragged onto the boat," Meshell said."It felt like we fought it for about an hour, even though in reality it was only a few minutes. It was pretty exciting."
